Welcome to Room 19's Blog for 2016. We are a Year 1 class at Pt England School, set in beautiful Point England, Auckland, New Zealand. This year we will be learning reading, writing and maths all on our iPads. Make sure you keep checking in with us and see how we are progressing throughout the year. Te Rakau sticks with Whaea Saff

Class 20 had an amazing Maori session with Whaea Saff on Friday, when she came with Te Rakau sticks.  We had been learning the waiata over the previous few sessions and today it was a chance to work with the Te Rakau.

Whaea Saff taught us two different ways to play and the learners were able to choose from these while singing the waiata.  Check out Class 20 having fun with Te Rakau in this video:

Learning the Poi with Whaea Saff

After learning a great waiata last week, today Whaea Saff bought some poi for Class 20 to use today.  It was great to hear how the poi were made by Whaea Saff and her family and it made us appreciate them more and be extra careful as we used them.  Class 20 really enjoyed the session and there were many requests for Whaea Saff to bring the poi again next week!  Check out these photos of us using the poi today:

Enthusiasm for Ti Raukau :)

Today Whaea Saff taught Class 20 Ti Raukau, a traditional Maori stick game which the whole class really enjoyed!  Check out our performance:
