Today I said farewell to my Pt England School family after 16 years. I am going to miss all my beautiful children, their parents, nana's, grandad's, aunts and uncles... and most of all my amazing colleagues. The quilt of my life is so much richer and brighter from my time spent within this wonderful, diverse and vibrant community. I hope to one day return and have even more experience, expertise and knowledge to share with you all. Until then, please look after yourselves, work hard, be kind and most of all 'Strive to Succeed!'
Aroha nui.

Team 1's Walk- On 'Prize Giving Movie
This past week Team 1 gave an outstanding performance at prize giving. Lead by Ms Gaston, the children sang 'Try Everything' and blew the audience away with their beautiful singing and actions. Will really miss my beautiful Tamariki and amazing teacher friends who make these occasions possible! This movie is the piece used to welcome the children on to stage before their performance.

Making Playdough - what changes can we see??
Today Room 19 explored solids, liquids and gases by making playdough! We began by looking at a recipe and writing down all the ingredients and measurements we needed. We talked about which ingredients were solids, which were liquids and watched how the water turned into a gas when we boiled the jug to make our boiling water. Next the fun began...in groups we took turns measuring, mixing and kneading the playdough. Once we had made a big ball we shared it out equally and added whatever colour food colouring we wanted. Some of us even decided to see what would happen when we mixed different colours together!

Ch Ch Ch Ch Changes!
We are in our final term and are finishing the year with a BANG by looking at states of matter and all the changes that occur in science. Last week we talked about hot/cold and heating/freezing so what better way to experience what freezing looks, feels and tastes like than by eating some ice blocks!

We will miss you Harold...see you in 2017!
Where are you Ms Peck?
Ms Peck was away today so in honour of her absence we cut and glued and made a big mess on Ms George's table! We saved your table for Monday Ms Peck... I think we may paint it as well!

Term 3 begins!
Crazy to think we are already in the second half of the year! We have a very exciting term ahead with our inquiry focus being the Rio Olympics. As a class we will be looking at all the habits of healthy athletes - healthy eating, drinking plenty of water, making sure we get lots of sleep and heading out to exercise. Today, we started exploring the different types of sports in the olympics and created some pictures of what we saw on our iPads. Ella and Perseus created some lovely pictures of the swimming race we watched!

Our visit to the Art Exhibition!
Today we went to look at our art exhibition in the hall. All the students at Point England had created a beautiful piece of art in Term 2 which is displayed in the hall this week. We loved not only seeing our own pictures hanging up, but also getting to see what all the other children had been creating!

Butterfly Writing by Perseus
Today, we were very lucky to have Mrs. Maude bring a monarch butterfly into class. We have been looking at the lifecycle of a caterpillar so it was great to be able to see a real butterfly. Perseus wrote a beautiful story in her new writing book and drew a lovely colourful butterfly. Great work today, Perseus!

Art, art and more art!! Term 2 is all about art...oh and of course our other learning areas too!
Team 1 is going to do a series of artistic designs set around their favourite things at school. At the end of term all our art will be displayed in an art display at PES.

Getting creative in writing!
Today, Room 19 wrote about a screenshot from the cartoon Tom and Jerry. We discussed what we thought may be happening in the picture and then created a word plan. The children came up with many creative ideas and we are now working on putting these into sentences for our stories. Here is Jennifer's work from writing today - a great effort!

Taking Turns!
Today for Inquiry we learnt about how to take turns! The class discussed and decided that taking turns involved "sharing" and "letting your friends have a go". The picture we were colouring in showed children taking turns drinking water from the fountain, so we all went outside to practise! It was great to see Room 19 sharing the water fountain with all their friends!

Hard at work during reading...
Today we have worked so hard! After reading we had a 6 page Explain Everything to complete. We completed cut up sentences and learnt how to record our voices as we read them back to each other. Next was word work where we learnt our new HFW. On the last page we created our own picture from the story. Phew...we worked so extra hard... and the neat thing is we did it all on our own!

Our first gymnastics lesson!
Room 19 had a great amount of fun last Thursday in their first gymnastics lesson of the year! We began by learning lots of different warm up shapes; the tuck, l-shape, pike, straddle, front support, diamond and back support. All these stretches ensured we were well warmed up to get involved in the two challenging and fun gymnastics circuits. We are very lucky to be able to have 8 weeks of this programme, so keep posted to see what else we learn!

Maths and jobs at home...
Was great to see the boys hanging out the wash and girls swatting the flies all in the guise of ordering and identifying numbers to 10.

Maths and necklaces...
Who said Maths and necklaces don't go together? We were able to create these beautiful necklaces by threading our numbers 1-10. Thank goodness we were able to use our iPad to take a photo of our finished products!
Drawing time...
After reading we drew a picture about our favourite places to play. We even knew how to colour them in using the different sized pencil nibs and colour palette.
We're up to 4!
After 3 days of school Room 19 now has 4 students. They have all learnt how to take a photo on their iPads and use lots of tools in Explain Everything. Happy, happy class!!
